The Best Cheap Games to Get During the 2013 Steam Summer Sale

Steam Summer Sale Logo

So the Steam Summer Getaway Sale 2013 has finally begun! With that said, there are so many games you can choose from. Yes, there are the deals on the front page which cycle out but they are hardly all there is. In fact, nearly a thousand games are on sale if you simply take the time to search them out. I just wanted to share a list of my favorite (primarily indie) games that are available at a minuscule price thanks to the sale.

Under a dollar:

  • McPixel – This is an incredibly weird game which is most comparable to Wario Ware Inc. You have to defuse bombs in the strangest of ways. ($0.99)
  • Wizorb – Here’s an excellent mix of RPG and Breakout. Very, very cute. ($0.74)

Over a buck but under two:

  • DLC Quest – Absolutely hilarious (and on point) commentary on the sad state of DLC in the modern age of gaming. ($1.01)
  • Home – It might be pixelated but that does not detract from the excellent horror vibe this game brings to the table. ($1.01)
  • Sequence – A rhythm game with a story. Mixes DDR and Guitar Hero-style gameplay into a RPG battle system which is surprisingly fun. ($1.99)
  • Shatter – Breakout for the current generation’s mindset. It has boss fights, great visuals, and an excellent soundtrack. ($1.99)
  • Snuggle Truck – A far cuter and less controversial version of Smuggle Truck. You must drive through tough 2D landscapes without having all your plushies fall out of the truck bed. ($1.49)

Two bucks and above:

  • Beat Hazard + Ultra DLCBeat Hazard is by far one of the best procedurally-generated music-based games to come out in the last few years. If you liked Audiosurf then check this out. ($3.24)
  • Faerie Solitaire – Don’t write this game off. It is a tremendously addictive spin on solitaire that provides around 20 hours of gameplay. ($2.49)
  • Half Minute Hero: Super Mega Neo Climax Ultimate Boy – Incredibly odd RPG where you have only 30 seconds to save the world again and again. Includes multiple game modes and visual styles. ($2.49)
  • Kairo – This is an incredible puzzle/adventure title. The world is expansive, eerie, and leaves you to discover what it has to offer. ($2.49)
  • Super House of Dead Ninjas – Tremendously fun game where you play as a super speedy ninja working her way downward through roomfuls of enemies. ($2.37)
  • They Bleed Pixels – A fast, extremely tough platformer. The smooth pixel animation and variety of abilities add to the already great core gameplay. ($2.49)
