Yep, I’m Still Playing AdVenture Capitalist

Two weeks ago I reviewed AdVenture Capitalist, the first incremental game released on Steam. It follows the same general formula of titles which came before (ie: Cookie Clicker) but with a “fun” capitalist spin. Basically, you’re meant to get your hand into as many industries as possible to reap the most monetary benefits.

Although enjoyable in simplicity, my review touched upon how this outward design aesthetic wasn’t nearly as engaging as the weirder progenitors of the genre. This still holds true. Yet, I can’t stop playing. It’s a weird issue to have – although not worth much complaint. Since the game runs continuously I don’t even have to “play” it to accrue funds.

Of course, with someone who is easy prey for incremental experiences, I continue to open it up, buy more businesses, and repeat. So far I’ve put around 15 hours into a game which is meant to exist primarily as something which idles on its own, unlaunched. What am I spending all my time in AdVenture Capitalist for? Simply babysitting it, purchasing 10 businesses here and there when the money accrues. There’s also the need for me to click heavily after each restart to get back into tip-top money-producing shape.

Those who are new to the genre probably don’t want to ever click that “restart” button – but you simply must to attain riches. With each reset (after you’ve accrued some angel investors) you gain a higher percentage of money than the previous playthrough. With careful management you can quickly manage making tons in hours as opposed to what previously required days.

With that said, I almost fell off the AdVenture Capitalist train when it bugged out. My most profitable industries were meant to be accruing revenue automatically without my personal clicking. However, after a day away I discovered they were not clicking at all. I had to click them each once to reinitialize their supposed auto-clicking nature. It was annoying to realize I’d lost out on tons of potential capital due to an odd glitch.

Almost giving up the game isn’t enough, though. I’m now back in it fully and still looking toward eventually unlocking everything. It’ll likely take a long while since my strategies are awful, but it is one of my gaming goals! Hey, I did it with Cookie Clicker (before they instituted a heck of a lot more achievements).
