As a fan of video games, it is pretty much impossible to get through E3 without feeling some sense of excitement. This was the first time in many years where I didn’t actually attend the conference due to my day job. Even so, I had fun watching streams from home!
I wasn’t actually hyped for any games this year – but as a result, a ton of games surprised the heck out of me. Here’s a look at the games that are my personal highlights of E3 2018. Chances are, I’ll play most of these at some point in the future
Beyond Good & Evil 2
The original Beyond Good & Evil is a darn good game. It doesn’t seem that any of its stealth/photography gameplay is coming back, but that’s actually okay. The biggest highlight of the game has always been its storyline, setting, and characters.
Control
Developer Remedy kicks butt. I loved Max Payne and Alan Wake and can’t wait to see how Control turns out. It also helps that Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy is also near and dear to my heart (and this game appears to offer modernized psychokinetic powers).
Cyberpunk 2077
Wow. Was there anyone not completely blown away by Cyberpunk 2077? Admittedly, I’ve never been a Witcher fan, but this game looks far too compelling to ignore. Even if there’s a meager storyline, it’ll still probably be tons of fun to explore this dystopian cityscape.
Devil May Cry 5
Devil May Cry is a series I fell in love with on the PS2 and then promptly forgot about when the next console generation came around. Fortunately, this slick trailer is making me want to jump back in.
Ghost of Tsushima
Sucker Punch are one of those studios that tends to put out excellent products. Pair that with my recent falling back in love with samurai fiction and this looks like a winner.
Metal Wolf Chaos XD
Metal Wolf Chaos sat neglected on wishlist for many years. Fortunately, I’ll finally play it without paying exorbitant fees on eBay for a weird Xbox game.
Overcooked 2
Overcooked is a hilarious, multiplayer-focused cooking game. Overcooked 2 looks to be an improvement on all that was already great about the title… but now it’ll have online multiplayer! Finally.
Resident Evil 2
The Resident Evil series is one that I enjoyed main entries in for a while before it took a turn toward total action with Resident Evil 5 and 6. This is the kind of remake I want to see more of.
Sea of Solitude
Sea of Solitude has been floating around for a while now but seeing it on center stage really made me finally pay attention to it. Definitely curious to give it a go and enjoy its enigmatic visuals and storytelling.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
Again, my interest in feudal Japan is being played to with this game. Unlike Ghost of Tsushima, however, this looks like a far more bombastic, fast-paced, unrealistic take on the whole thing.
Wolfenstein: Youngblood
I like the idea of a Wolfenstein story without BJ at the helm. It also just means there will be even more Wolfenstein games, which is always a good thing.
